☆ Character Age: 22
☆ Special Abilities/Powers: Hakkai is quite good at hand-to-hand combat but excels at energy-based chi attacks and defenses. He gets a significant power-boost when he removes the power-limiting cuffs he wears on his left ear.
☆Timeline: Immediately after the events in Volume 8 of Saiyuki Reload.
☆ Character's Personality: Hakkai is easy-going, friendly, and polite. Sometimes it's hard to tell what he's really thinking, because he's quite good at hiding his true feelings.

☆ Character's Background: Not much about Hakkai's childhood is known. As he was coming into adulthood, he met the love of his life - a woman named Konan - who also happened to be his sister. They settled together in a peaceful village, where Hakkai taught the village children at the local school He went slightly insane when the villagers selected Konan as a human sacrifice to the local youkai lord, and went on a murderous rampage through the youkai's castle in an effort to get her back. After remorselessly killing hundreds upon hundreds of innocents, he at last found her imprisoned in the castle's dungeon, raped by the youkai lord and impregnated with his child. She took her own life to prevent the birth of the monster in her womb, driving Hakkai completely over the edge. It was at that moment the lord of the castle confronted Hakkai, sarcastically congratulating him on the brutal slaughter of hundreds of innocents in his quest to retrieve his incestuous lover. The youkai lord then told Hakkai of a legend that held that a human bathed in the blood of a thousand youkai would become one, and jokingly suggested that perhaps he was the thousandth. Before killing Hakkai, he slit his wrist and splashed him with more blood, ironically proving the legend true and perpetrating his own demise at the hands of the human-turned-youkai he'd thought to easily overpower and kill.

Currently Hakkai is traveling west with the three men he has become friends with since his sister died, in standard Journey to Save the World tradition. Only with more bickering.
